The Parable of the Widow and the Unjust Judge
Luke 18:1 ~ 18:8
2010-09-05

"Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.'
"For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' "
And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"


Introduction
Prayers are never easily answered without a struggle. A prayer, first of all, is a wrestling between us and a devil that blocks our prayer.

1. The Old Testament prayer
1) Second Kings 13:14-18
- When Elisha was suffering from a deadly disease, the king of Israel inquired after him.
2) When Elisha told the king to strike the ground with an arrow, he did it only three times. If the king would have struck the ground five or six times, Israel would have been released from Aram for good.

2. The New Testament prayer taught by Jesus
1) The judge who was like a devil
2) The widow who was treated unfairly.
3) An unremitting prayer
4) The surrender of the unjust judge

3. Our prayer today
1) Clear and definite goal
2) Spiritual wrestling
3) Till your enemy ceases to resist
