Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Stress Is the Most Frightening Adversary
1 Kings 19:1 ~ 19:8

2010-03-07

Many of fatal diseases from which people suffer today such as cancer, cerebral accident, and myocardial infarction are reportedly attributed to stress. We don't find biblical characters in the Bible who died of a disease like cancer caused by stress.
– The genealogy of Shem  (Ge 11:10-26)

1. Why do we suffer from stress?
1) Because we become excessively fearful and discouraged  (Job 3:25)
2) Because we lose hope, overwhelmed by the magnitude of our problems
¨ç Jezebel's threat and Elijah's irresistible exhaustion (1Ki 19:1-2)
¨è Elijah was frightened and intimidated (1Ki 19:3-4)

2. Why was Jesus free from stress?
1) Without covetous desires, there would be no stress  (James 1:14-15, 1Ti 6:9)
2) The faith that leaves everything to God
"Yet not my will, but yours be done"  (Mt 11:28, Ps 68:19, Phil 4:6-7, Jn 14:27)

3. The recovery of Elijah
1) Elijah was alone in the desert, sleeping. He ate and drank and then lay down again
(1Ki 19:5-7), (2Co 1:4, Jn 14:16-18)
2) Exercise – Jogging is one of good ways to get rid of stress  (1Ki 19:8, Pr 17:22)
3) Elijah went up to Horeb, the mountain of God, to have spiritual refilling.
- He was able to recognize a spiritual gentle whisper (1Ki 19:12-13)
4) Elijah's final mission and ascension (1Ki 19:15-18)

Today's world is a factory that manufactures stress¡ªceaseless competition, tension, anxiety, fear, and discouragements. However, if you follow the life of Jesus, you will be set free from stress.

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

    3 John  1:11
