Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
The Suffering of Jesus
Isaiah 53:1 ~ 53:8

2010-03-28

Introduction
In around 700 B.C. Isaiah the prophet was greatly shocked at the vision he saw, and shouted: “Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed??This is what Isaiah cried out after he saw the life of Jesus in his vision.

1.Humble birth and circumstances
1) A tender shoot, a root out of dry ground
2) To Isaiah’s eyes, Jesus had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire him.

2. People’s treatment of Jesus
1) Jesus was not acknowledged in the Judaic system and organization.
He was greatly mistreated and only the sick followed Him.
- Jews blindfolded Him, struck Him with their fists, and despised Him.

3. The true appearance and mission of Jesus
1) He took on our infirmities and carried our sorrows.
2) People’s lack of understanding
- They thought that God hated Jesus, so God struck Jesus because of His sin and put Him on the cross.

4. The meaning of Jesus?redemptive life and suffering
1) He was pierced for our transgressions.
2) He was crushed for our iniquities.
3) He was punished to bring us peace.
4) He was wounded to heal us.

5. The overall meaning of Jesus?crucifixion
* (Isaiah 53:6) ?We turned to our own way of greed, not the way of God.

God has made Jesus bear all our iniquities (Isa 53:8)

Conclusion
Isaiah 53:10-12

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
