Gospel Church - Seoul, KoreaA Spring of Water That Keeps Us from Being Thirsty John 4:13 ~ 4:14 2009-08-09
13 Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
A person's life is a life of meetings. Many people desire happiness and satisfaction from others, but sometimes their meetings cause them to be hurt and in despair. After the sin of Adam and Eve, all humankind has been under sin, and due to sin, human relationships have caused hurt to one another. How can we resolve the problems in our relationships?
1. Meeting Jesus.
Jesus Christ is the answer to our problems. Jesus solves all our problems of disease and despair. More than anything, we are thankful that Jesus came to us. Just as Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman who was living a life of contempt, being scorned by people every day (Jn 4:7), He also comes to all of us who are hurt, abandoned, stumbling, and suffering. This is God's love and concern for us.
2. Jesus gives eternal living water.
Jesus spoke about eternal living water (Jn 4:10), but the Samaritan woman did not understand the meaning of eternal living water (Jn 4:15). Drinking the water of this world quenches our thirst for a moment, but it does not satisfy our fundamental thirst. However, when we accept Jesus Christ, the spiritual thirst of our souls will be satisfied. Jesus Christ is the only living water that quenches all spiritual thirst.
3. Jesus heals relationships.
When Jesus pointed out the greatest problem of the Samaritan woman (Jn 4:16), she said, "I have no husband" (Jn 4:17). She confessed, "I do not have true happiness." There is no true satisfaction or happiness in relationships in the world. We can discover the meaning of life and have true relationships only when we meet Jesus Christ (Jn 4:25). Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life (Jn 14:6), the one who heals the sicknesses that we experience in our relationships.
4. A life that gives glory to God.
After meeting Jesus, we should live a life that gives glory to God, and worship Him (Jn 4:23-24). The Samaritan woman was so happy and thankful that she left her water jar, ran back to her town, and talked about Jesus, to everyone who had treated her with disregard and contempt (Jn 4:28-30). Likewise, I hope that you will put down your water jar of despair, sorrow, and pain at the Cross, look to God alone, and live a life for His glory. When we seek first the kingdom of God, He will give us good things in our life (Mt 6:33). As a result, God will be glorified.
The testimony of the Samaritan woman caused a lot of people to turn to Christ (Jn 4:39). Likewise, I pray that you will become a true witness of Christ, bear fruit, and live a life that gives glory to God.
