May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Introduction: The Greeks used the word "grace" when they described something which was regarded as free-without a price. Grace is called karis in Greek and it refers to an act which is pleasing to the eyes, good to hear, and also admirable. When they saw beautiful scenery or art they said, "Oh! How gracious it is!" And whenever they heard beautiful music or found someone´s activity wonderful, they viewed it as "karis, grace".
1. The God of grace. 1) The grace of the Father God. ¨Ø He gave us the gift of heaven and earth and all that is in it (Ge 1:1; 2:1). ¨è He gave us the gift of life (Ac 17:24-25). ¨é He gave us the gift of Jesus Christ the Savior (Jn 4:9-10). ¨ê He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit (Ac 2:17, 38). ¨ë He gave us the gift of heaven (Jn 14:1-3). 2) The grace of Jesus. ¨Ø He came to earth as a gift from God (Jn 3:16-17). ¨è He gave His own life as an atonement for us-Fivefold Gospel and Threefold Blessing (Mk 10:45, Isa 53:5). 3) The Holy Spirit of grace. ¨Ø He came to us as another Counselor (Jn 14:16-18). ¨è He makes us realize and experience the grace of Father God and Jesus (Jn 14:26; 1Co 2:10).
2. The Law and grace. 1) What God gave Moses on Mt. Sinai-the 10 Commandments and 613 laws. ¨Ø The Law points out our sins, guilt, and condemnation, and judges us (Ro 3:20). ¨è It reveals our sinfulness and human arrogance (Ro 7:7-9). 2) Grace. ¨Ø It was given through the Cross of Calvary. - He paid the price for our sin, and gave us forgiveness, repentance and salvation (Ro 5:8-9). ¨è New change. We are a new creation, and were born again (2Co 5:17; Tit 3:5).
3. When we receive grace. 1) We receive peace in our hearts. Like the stormy Sea of Galilee, our sea has become totally calm (2Th 3:16). 2) Joy will well up in our hearts. When the love of Jesus shines, joy will come (Isa 35:10). 3) Satisfaction and happiness will come into our hearts (2Co 3:5; Php 3:8). 4) Love for God and neighbors will overflow (Mk 12:30-31). 5) Thanksgiving and praise will fill our hearts (Col 3:16-17).
Conclusion: Habitual, legalistic, and formalistic faith will only bring us selfishness and self-centeredness-not peace, joy, and happiness. Therefore, we should always pray, read the Bible, and live a God-centered life with the Holy Spirit in order to live in grace. |
