Life Can Be Reversed
Genesis 50:15 ~ 50:21

2001-10-28

When a wall of despair faces us, the grace of God can completely reverse our situation. Joseph was 17 when his brothers sold him as a slave. He was taken to Egypt and sold to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh's officials, and worked 10 years for him. His life was full of reversals as he was confined to prison, interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh, and eventually became the prime minister of Egypt. Joseph's brothers intended him harm; God reversed the course of his life to save many lives (Genesis 50:20).

Moses experienced a reversal when he led the Israelites out of Egypt. Pharaoh's army was behind them; the Red Sea was in front of them. Would they drown or be captured? Moses lifted up his staff as God told him to do, and the Red Sea parted; the Israelites walked safely across. The giant Goliath challenged the Israelites for 40 days calling for someone to fight him (1 Samuel 17:8-9); they were helpless. David, a shepherd boy of 17 had no army training, but he knew God. He killed the giant with a stone and a sling (1 Samuel 17:47,52). King Nebuchadnezzar set up an image of gold and forced everyone to bow down to it or be thrown into a fiery furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego served God and would not bow down to the idol (Daniel 3:17-18). They were tied up and thrown into the fire. The king was amazed to see four men walking around in the fire unbound and unharmed. Then he praised God (Daniel 3:29-30) and had them come out of the fire. God can reverse life's situations.

Jesus Christ brought the great reversal in life. He was a beloved and respected teacher to many. To the Israelites He was a heretic, to the Romans a rebel. The Israelites condemned Him to die on the Cross. Jesus felt forsaken by God (Mark 15:34). The disciples and others were in complete despair when He died, but He rose from the dead (Acts 1:3-5), sent the Holy Spirit to us, and told us to spread the Gospel.

How can we experience a reversal in life? We must take off the garment of sin and repent of our way of life, which goes against the will of God our Father (Matthew 3:10-12; Psalm 34:18). We must determine to change our ways and become a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 12:1-2). We must not complain, blame or hate others, or rebel (Psalm 37:1-4; 50:14-15; 55:22). We must pray for this reversal if we expect God to work on our behalf (Romans 8:28; Numbers 23:19; Psalm 30:11). According to God's timing, reversals will occur. He will turn evil to good, darkness to light, disorder to order, ugliness to beauty, poverty to wealth, and death to life. Our God can make a reversal because this is His work and His desire.

Heavenly Father, as human beings we face a wall of despair. But You can open a way where there is no way. Only You can bring a great reversal in the situations of our lives.

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

    3 John  1:11
