Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
The Power of the Precious Blood
Hebrews 9:11 ~ 9:14

2002-04-07

Blood and sin are an unbreakable relationship. When Adam and Eve sinned, their spirits died and their nakedness needed to be covered. God killed an animal that shed its blood so He could use the skin to cover Adam and Eve. This is symbolic of Christ shedding His blood for us. Blood had to flow in order to forgive the sins of mankind.

The precious blood of Jesus brings forgiveness, righteousness, and glory. In the Old Testament, we read of various kinds of sacrifices requiring the blood of animals such as the burnt offering, the fellowship offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering (Leviticus 1-5). The blood of animals was sprinkled on those who were ceremonially unclean to sanctify them so they were outwardly clean. But the power of the blood of Jesus Christ on the Cross has cleansed us from sin and has restored our relationship with God (Hebrews 9:13-14). We have received peace through the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the Cross (Colossians 1:20).

The precious blood of Jesus is the only road that leads to God. We have all sinned (Romans 3:10-18,23). There are no good deeds that we can do to cover our sins. However, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all (Hebrews 10:1-10). He sacrificed His life and became the sin offering for us. There is no longer a need for a place to sacrifice animals. Through the blood of Jesus Christ we can go directly to Him (Hebrews 10:19,20; Romans 3:24-28).

His precious blood is the evidence of victory over Satan. His blood covers our sins and breaks Satan's power of bondage over us. The power of Jesus' precious blood shields us and repels the attacks of Satan (Revelation 12:10,11; 1 John 1:9). Victory was achieved on the Cross through the power of Jesus' blood (Colossians 2:13-15).

His precious blood is the evidence of the covenant with God. He made a covenant with the Israelites that animal blood should be sprinkled on the altar as evidence of the covenant (Exodus 24:5-8). But that covenant has been cancelled - because of the sacrifice of Jesus. When we partake of Holy Communion, this is symbolic evidence of the covenant between Christ and us (Matthew 26:27,28; Hebrews 4:14-16; Hebrews 12:24). When John Wesley was stopped by a thief and had no money to give him, he told the thief about Jesus Christ. Three years later in a worship service, the former thief introduced himself to John Wesley and confessed, "The words you told me about Jesus Christ kept ringing in my ears, and I accepted Him as my Savior." Oh, the power of the precious blood of Jesus!

Heavenly Father, we have all sinned and deserve condemnation. But through the power of the precious blood of Jesus, we are cleansed from sin, freed from the slavery of Satan, and we can become Your sons and daughters and live in harmony with You.

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
