Go Outside and Look Up at the Heavens
Genesis 15:5 ~ 15:6

2007-05-20

5 He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars-if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be." 6 Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

Introduction : Abraham was sleeping inside his tent one night. At that moment, God appeared in his dream and told Abraham to get up, go outside the tent, and then look up at the heavens and count the stars. God said to him, "So shall your offspring be." After that, God changed his name from Abram to Abraham, which means "a father of many nations."

1. Go out of the tent.
    1) Life inside the tent.
¨ç Humanistic life with no heaven in sight-a life that depends on human wisdom,
knowledge, experience, and the senses is a life with limitations (Jas 4:14).
¨è Life in the tent was full of worry, anxiety, fear, insecurity, and despair
            (Job 16:6; 17:7).
    2) Come out from the tent. Get out of the tent of human limitations and humanism.
Escape from the tent of human-centered concerns, and look up at the heavens
        (Ps 42:11).

2. Look up at the heavens.
    1) Look up at God the Creator who is omniscient and omnipotent (Isa 40:28-29).
    2) Look up at the vast expanse of the universe. Escape from your narrow imagination,
and have a big dream and hope (Ge 15:5-7).
    3) Remember that this God becomes our father (Isa 41:10; Ps 89:26).
    4) Be bold and courageous (Ps 27:1; Heb 13:5-6).

3. Count the stars.
Count your blessings and grace from God.
    1) Count the grace of redemption through the Cross (Isa 53:5-6).
    2) Do not forget the grace of God (Ps 103:1-5).
    3) Do not receive God´s grace in vain (2Co 6:1-2).

4. Change your name.
Changing your name means changing your future (Ge 17:5, 15).
    1) You have become a new creature through the grace of God (2Co 5:17; Eph 4:24).
    2) Call yourself a new name. Imagine yourself with a new name.
        ¨ç A person of faith (Ro 4:17-18).
        ¨è A person of hope (Ps 146:5).
        ¨é A person of love (Ro 5:5).
        ¨ê A person of righteousness (2Co 5:21).
        ¨ë A person of holiness (1Co 6:11).
        ¨ì A person of peace (2Co 5:18).
        ¨í A person of joy (Ps 16:11).
        ¨î A person of blessing (Gal 3:13-14).
        ¨ï A person of health (1Pe 2:24; Mal 4:2).

Conclusion : If you live your life crouching in a little tent, your life will be a failure. Get out of the tent of humanism and look up at the heavens. You must begin a miraculous life of living with God!

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
