Introduction : I was preaching at a revival meeting in a suburb in Paris when a short, young Korean woman came to see me for advice. A French family had adopted her when she was a little child. She graduated from high school in France and from a university in London and was now a career woman. She asked me, "Who am I? Please find my roots for me." Every person asks the same question-consciously or unconsciously. Everyone asks, "Why am I on this earth?" People meet each other and then leave each other; people are born, and then they die.
¡Ü Here is God´s answer to our question, "Who am I?" Because of Him, we are in Christ Jesus, who has become God´s wisdom for us.
1. One who lives by wisdom - Wisdom means understanding 1) Jesus makes us understand God the creator. (Jn 14:6-7, Col 1:15-16, Heb 1:2) 2) Serve God and He will not just give us the answers for our daily problems, but for all of our problems in life. (Pr 9:10, 3:6, Col 2:3) 3) Live a life through God´s wisdom instead of through the wisdom of humanism and atheistic materialism. (Col 1:9-11)
2. One who is clothed with righteousness 1) When corrupted, Adam was naked and lost the glory of God. The Lord God made an animal bleed and prepared garments of skin for Adam and clothed him. (Ge 3:21) 2) This sacrificial animal symbolizes Jesus. He died on the Cross and shed His blood for us. He took off His clothes of righteousness and clothed our naked body of sin. (1Jn 2:2, 2Co 5:21)
3. One who receives holiness 1) Contamination brings disease and death by corrupting the air, water, food, and living conditions. (Ex 15:26, 23:25) 2) The contamination was caused by sin, and it brings disease and death to our soul. (Jas 1:15, Ro 5:12) 3) The precious blood of Jesus eliminates the contamination of sin; the Holy Spirit abolishes death and gives us holiness and spiritual life. (1Pe 3:18, Ro 8:1-2)
4. One who receives redemption - He died for us and paid our debt. (1Ti 2:6, Heb 9:12, Rev 1:5, Jn 1:12, Rev 5:9-10) 1) Redeemed us from the slavery of sin (Ps 103:3, 1Pe 2:24) 2) Redeemed us from the slavery of the curse (Gal 3:13-14, 2Co 8:9, 9:8) 3) Redeemed us from the destruction of death (Jn 11:25, Heb 2:14-15, 1Co 15:55-58)
Conclusion : Who am I? This eternal mysterious question is clarified in Jesus. I was not born by accident or to live a meaningless life and die. I was born according to God´s will and plan, and I believe in Jesus. I have a clear identity, and I have received the wisdom of the Lord, righteousness, holiness, and redemption. I am not an unidentified higher animal, but a child of God with a clear identity.
