Introduction : The Old Testament is a shadow of the New Testament. The Old Testament is foreshadowed through a figure of speech or a shadow that will be accomplished in the New Testament. Today´s Scripture reading in the Old Testament is showing us that Abraham is a figure of God, Isaac is a figure of Jesus the son of God, and Eliezer is a figure of the Holy Spirit and servants meaning the angels.
1. Abraham wanted his son Isaac to get married 1) Abraham sent his servant Eliezer to the town of Nahor with ten camels and all kinds of good things (Ge 24:2, 4, 7) 2) God sent His angels and the Holy Spirit to look for the bride of Jesus (2Th 2:13, Jn 16:13, Mt 24:41) - The Holy Spirit brought many physical and spiritual treasures (1Co 2:9, Jas 1:17)
2. The prayer to find Rebekah 1) A girl gave a drink to the servant and ten camels (Ge 24:14, 17-22) - After that, the servant took out two bracelets as a present 2) The Holy Spirit is looking for us (1) The Holy Spirit brought camels - the camel of family, the camel of relatives, and the camel of neighbors (1Pe 4:12-13) (2) Give a drink of love (a labor of love) - The camels want the water of love, so punishing them cannot solve the problem (1Co 16:14, Gal 5:13, Lk 22:27, Mt 5:46, 7:12, 1Jn 3:18)
3. Rebekah left her home to get married, riding upon the camels that she gave a drink 1) Gave costly gifts to the family of the bride (Ge 24:50-53, Lk 6:38, Gal 6:7, 9-10) 2) The whole family and nation are blessed, because of all Christians who are the bride of Jesus (Dt 28:12, 12:7) 3) Although we may have a hard time giving a drink to all human camels, love and perseverance will make a glorious wagon (Ge 24:60-61, Jas 1:12, 2-4) - When we go to heaven by the grace of the precious blood of Jesus, we shall ride in the wagon of glorious and disciplined faith that is made of a labor of love (Eph 1:7, 1Th 1:3, 1Ti 4:10, 1Pe 4:8, Rev 19:7)
Conclusion : These days, many human camels have a thirst for love. To punish and oppress them will not stop their crying. Feed them with water only through a labor of love.
