Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
What Are the Benefits of Praying in Tongues?
1 Corinthians 14:39 ~ 14:40

2004-09-26

Introduction : The Bible talks about speaking in tongues. The disciples of Jesus gathered together in the upper room of Mark John on the Day of Pentecost 50 days after the crucifixion, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues. Afterward, the Holy Spirit made all listeners speak in other tongues. They lifted God´s name on high when Peter preached the Gospel at the house of Cornelius who was a centurion of what was called the Italian cohort. Many years later, Paul went down to Ephesus and preached the Gospel for 12 disciples. When Paul laid his hand on the disciples, they started to pray and speak in tongues and prophesy by receiving the Holy Spirit.

1. Praying in tongues gives us conviction about the fullness of the Holy Spirit.
    (Act 2:1-4, 33, 8:18-19) (Mk 16:17)

2. Praying in tongues is a secret language to communicate deeply with God.
    (1 Co 14:2, 14)

3. Praying in tongues edifies our faith.
    (1 Co14:4, 26)

4. Praying in tongues frees us from weariness of heart.
    (Isa 28:11-12) (Joel 2:23)

5. Praying in tongues is praying with groans.
    (Ro 8:26-27)

6. Praying in tongues is the same as prophecy if interpreted.
    (1 Co 14:13, 3) (1 Co 14:5)

7. Praying in tongues makes deep and long prayer possible.
    (1 Co 14:15) (Eph 6:18)

Conclusion : Praying in tongues is a wonderful language of prayer. Paul gave thanks to the Lord that he could pray by speaking in tongues (1 Co 14:18).

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
