How Should We Pray?
Luke 18:1 ~ 18:8

2004-08-29

Introduction : There are three kinds of prayer. Firstly, there is prayer that leads to communication with God. This is the prayer of praise and thanksgiving. Secondly, there is intercessory prayer. Intercessory prayer is for nations, people, and events. Thirdly, there is task prayer, intense prayer that desires specific answers. Today I would like to teach you how to pray task prayers, the kind of prayer that desires specific answers.

1. We must have a normal relationship with God
    1) Confess all your sins and faults and ask for forgiveness.
        (Isa 59:1-2, 55:6-7, Ps 32:5-6)
    2) Undertake your obligation.
        (Isa 43:7, Ps 103:2, Ex 20:8, Mal 3:10, Pr 28:9, 1Jn 3:21-22)
    3) Offer a sacrifice offering with thanksgiving. (Ps 50:23, Php 4:6, Eph5:20)

2. We must have a clear goal
    1) Do not reiterate. Do not pray with vague words. (Mt 6:7-8 10, 1Jn 5:14, Lk 11:8-9)
    2) Visualize an image of your goal as though it is already accomplished.
Say to this mountain, "Go throw yourself into the sea."
        (Mk 11:22-24, Ro 4:17-18, Ge 13:14-15, 15:5-6)

3. We must believe that what we say will happen
    1) Do not doubt. (Jas 1:6-7, Mt 14:31)
    2) Grasp the words of promise. (Mt 6:33, 7:11, 2Co 1:20)
    3) Desire great and unsearchable things. (Jer 33:3, Ps 145:19, Mk 9:23)

4. We must concentrate in earnest
    1) A passionate heart and a deep-rooted desire. (Lk 18:6-8)
    2) With all your heart . . . through fasting prayer. (Est 4:16, Joel 2:12-13)
    3) Indefatigable patience. (Heb 10:36-38, Jas 5:11, Mt 15:27-28)

Conclusion :
Luke 18 ~ the prayer of a widow
She prayed with a clear goal, a firm belief, a deep-rooted desire, and with her whole
heart. The result was a specific answer.

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
