Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Jeremiah was Confined in the Courtyard
Jeremiah 33:1 ~ 33:3

2001-11-04

During the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon, the people had forsaken God. Jeremiah prophesied the destruction of Judah, was confined to prison, and he could not continue to do the work of God.

God alone accomplished creation. He is a working God and He created the world in six days; He didn뭪 need man뭩 help. When He made the heavens and the earth, Adam was not there. When He made the sun, moon and stars, Adam was not there. When He made the birds, animals, and crawling things, Adam was not there. When all of God뭩 other creative work was done, then He made Adam and Eve ?to rest, to worship and obey the Lord, and to enjoy His provisions.

God alone established the rescue plan of salvation (John 3:16). Mankind had fallen and had become a slave to sin. Jesus alone completed the redemptive work of salvation on the cross (Romans 8:1; Colossians 1:13-14; Titus 3:5-6). Man could not help Him. Jesus provided healing for us (Isaiah 53:5). He became poor for our sakes so that we might know His grace (2 Corinthians 8:9). Jesus redeemed us from the curse so that we might be blessed and receive the promise of the Spirit (Galatians 3:13-14). God has provided heaven for us (John 14:1-3). He has prepared everything for us (1 Corinthians 2:9; 3 John 1:2; Matthew 11:28-30).

Why was Jeremiah confined to prison? He wanted to be released so he could continue to do God뭩 work. But God wanted Jeremiah to know that the work belongs to God, not to man. He told Jeremiah just to call out to Him (Jeremiah 33:1-3). We don뭪 have to think of a way to help God (Isaiah 55:8-9). John Bunyan was a great pastor in England. But his faith was contrary to the Church of England that was in control, and he was put in prison. John Bunyan prayed to be released to pastor his congregation. But God뭩 plan was to keep him in prison to write a novel; Pilgrim뭩 Progress became a best seller, second to the Bible. God is the Master of our lives; we are merely His servants (Psalm 123:1-2). If God puts us in a prison and doesn뭪 allow us to do something at a certain time, it뭩 because our plan wasn뭪 His plan or it wasn뭪 in His timing (Ecclesiastes 3:1-11). In God뭩 prison, man will call out to Him. God will bring health, healing and deliverance from our prisons ?in His time ?when we call out to Him and let Him do His work, just as it was in God뭩 plan to bring Judah and Israel back from captivity (Jeremiah 33:6-9).

Heavenly Father, sometimes You put us in 뱎rison?to help us realize that we are not the masters of our lives; You are our Master. Help us to follow You ?not lead with our own plans.

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

    3 John  1:11
