Repent and Move Toward the New Year
Isaiah 55:6 ~ 55:9

2003-12-28

Introduction : It is a normal thing for people to clean the house and get rid of overstock before greeting the New Year. Sometimes we sell the products for their scrap value and donate old clothes or shoes to a philanthropic organization. It is similar for human beings. We should not greet the New Year with our sinful lives as they are. We must ask God to cleanse our souls from sin as we move toward the New Year, like physical cleansing when we have a bath.

1. Let´s repent of not loving others.
    1) We are all debtors of God´s love.
        (1) We were children of hell and that´s true reality. (Jn 8:34)(1Jn 3:8).
        (2) Jesus gave His life to save us. (Mk 10:45). (Jn 3:16).
    2) Do we really love Jesus? (Mt 25:31-40).
    3) Our brother´s keeper (Ge 4:9; 1 Jn 3:16-19).

2. Let´s repent of blaming our neighbor (Jn 10:10).
    1) Strip the neighbors and don´t clothe them.
        (1) The devil stripped Adam. (Ge 3:10).
        (2) God made garments of skin and clothed them. (Ge 3:21).
            - Jesus was totally naked and died on the Cross to prepare clothes for us.
                (Ro 3:25-26).
    2) Hurt neighbors and don´t treat their injury.
        (1) A person who went down to Jericho from Jerusalem.
            - A robber hit him and took what he had. He was half dead. (Lk 10:30).
        (2) A Samaritan gave treatment.
            - Poured oil and wine and applied a bandage. (Lk 10:34).
    3) Accused his neighbors and did not pray for them.
        (1) Job´s neighbors accused Job.
        (2) God was angry about Job´s friends. (Job 42:7).
    4) Tried to kill neighbors when they fell.
        (1) The example of the woman caught in adultery. (Jn 8:5).
        (2) Jesus did not accuse her but helped her. (Jn 8:7,11).

3. Let´s repent of idolatry (Mt 10:36-39).
    1) If you love anything more than the Lord, it becomes an idol.
        (1) Love parents - Love of parents in the Lord.
        (2) Love children - Love of children in the Lord.
        (3) Love wife - Love of wife in the Lord.
        (4) Love friends - Love of friends in the Lord.
    2) Love of yourself more than love for the Lord.
        (1) Personal honor.
        (2) Personal position.
        (3) Personal authority.
        (4) Personal pleasure.
        (5) Personal material - We must crucify ourselves and follow the Lord.
            (2Ti 3:2)(Jude 1:20-21)(1Co 15:31)(Gal 6:14)(Lk 9:23).

Conclusion : Let´s get rid of these three sins that are most prominent in our lives, and move toward the New Year by taking the hand of the Lord (Isa 55:6,7).

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
