Three Unavoidable Things for Mankind
Ecclesiastes 12:13 ~ 12:14

2003-07-13

We live in a world where everything is unstable and uncertain. Politically and economically, things are uncertain even as the world situation has become unstable. Our very lives, today and tomorrow, are also uncertain. However, even amid all these uncertainties, there is truth, concrete facts that are stable and certain. The first is that we have been born and are living in this world. The second fact is that the hardships of life cannot be avoided. Third, no person can escape death.

1. The fact that we are living
   1) The question of whether we were born by chance or for a reason.
      (1) Even before creation, God foreknew each of us and has chosen us through l
Christ. Our birth in this world was God's will    (Ephesians 1:3-6).
      (2) Murder is an atrocious sin - suicide, abortion, and murder are actions that
           deprive a life given by God. They are sins against God    (Exodus 20:13;
           Revelation 21:8).
   2) We have a purpose for being born.
      (1) We are the dwelling place of God    (Ephesians 2:21,22).
      (2) The fall of mankind was of great sadness to God.
         - Because of the fall, mankind has served Satan instead of God and has
become Satan's dwelling place (Ephesians 2:1,2).
   3) Restoration of mankind     (Ephesians 2:4-10).
      (1) Made into children of God     (Ephesians 1:5).
      (2) Made holy     (Ephesians 1:3,4).
      (3) Made into heirs of God     (Romans 8:15-18).
      (4) Made to serve and praise God     (Ephesians 2:10; 1:6).

2. The fact that we cannot avoid hardships in life
   1) Hardships resulting from sin against and the fall from God's grace     (Genesis 3:15-19).
   2) Hardships as part of destiny     (Job 5:6,7).
      - Since Adam, Jesus Christ was the only one born without sin, yet even He
did not escape hardships in life, including death     (2 Corinthians 5:21).
   3) Hardships must be overcome in life.
      (1) Jesus suffered the hardship of redemption - fivefold hardship.
      (2) Arm yourselves with the knowledge of redemption     (James 5:13).
        - Understand, see, believe, ask, and insist     (Isaiah 53:5; Romans 10:17).

3. The fact that death is unavoidable
   1) Adam and his descendants whose spirits and flesh must face death.
      (1) Adam died at the age of 930.
      (2) Noah's era - 120 years of age     (Genesis 6:3).
      (3) Moses' era - 70-80 years of age     (Psalm 90:10).
   2) Jesus brings our spirits back to life     (1 Corinthians 15:45-49).
   3) Jesus, the great king of life     (John 1:4).
      (1) By bringing the dead to life - the daughter of Jairus, the son of a widow
           in Nain, and Lazarus.
      (2) Died but was resurrected     (Romans 1:2-4).
      (3) Jesus brings spirits back to life     (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:1).
      (4) Jesus provides resurrection of the flesh     (1 Corinthians 15:25-26; 15:50-57).

There are three unchanging facts in our lives: that we are living, that hardship cannot be avoided, and that we must all die. We cannot solve these things by ourselves. However, Jesus the Son of God came to us and prevailed over all three of these facts, and thereby provided us with the same victorious life as well     (Romans 8:35-39).

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
