Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
The Joy of Resurrection
1 Corinthians 15:50 ~ 15:55

2003-04-20

Two historical events have determined the destiny of humanity. The first is the fall of Adam and the consequence that led to humankind being separated from God. The second historical event resulted in the reconciliation between God and humankind through the resurrection of the "Second Adam," Jesus Christ. The first event brought death and despair; the second brought life and eternal hope. Why does the resurrection of Jesus Christ bring eternal joy?

Sin has been eternally forgiven and cleared. Where there are people, there is religion. The fundamental purpose of religion is to provide a solution to the problem of sin. Various religions generally assert that a person can obtain forgiveness and righteousness by pursuing good deeds or through the penance of the mind. However, the price for sin is death. Christ's death and resurrection are proof that He cleared the sins of humankind for eternity (Romans 4:25; 1 Corinthians 15:16-19).

True meaning and value have been given to our lives. No matter how successful a person may be, all individuals are destined to die. All accomplishments in life result in nothingness without the hope of eternal life (Ecclesiastes 1:2-7; 2:4-13). People fall prey to nihility (nothingness), and hedonism (the self-indulgent pursuit of pleasure) (1 Corinthians 15:32,34). However, Christ's resurrection confirms perpetuity and eternity - continuity in life (Revelation 21:1-8).

Resurrection makes possible a hopeful start in life. Christ comes to those who are sad and in absolute despair. He is the giver of life (John 11:25). The spark of hope burns in us when the resurrected Christ lives in us. Christ is not just a teacher of some cold, dry religion, teaching the Law, morality, or ethics. He is the Christ of resurrection! Each individual must experience resurrection (2 Corinthians 5:17). If Jesus Christ goes to Iraq, the people will have hope. If the gospel of Christ goes into North Korea, He will give them the resurrection of life, joy, and hope. No matter how dry or hopeless a situation may be, Jesus Christ provides people with unlimited hope (Ezekiel 37:4,5).

We will be resurrected with Christ who overcame death. The greatest enemy of humankind is death. All people die. Those who do not believe in Christ die twice, a physical death and a spiritual death (Revelation 20:14; Mark 9:48,49). The secular teaching of spiritual immortality is just a hope yet to be experienced. However, Christ's resurrection has been historically proven and experienced (1 Corinthians 15:3-8). We will also be resurrected with Christ (1 Corinthians 15:12-22). We will be resurrected exactly like Jesus has been resurrected (1 Corinthians 15:42-44,50-55; 1 John 3:2).

Heavenly Father, thank You for the certainty that believers will be resurrected with Christ!

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
