Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
So There Was Great Joy in That City
Acts 8:5 ~ 8:8

2018-06-17

Back in the old days, soldiers were kept in front of gates of cities and told to guard them thoroughly in order for enemy troops to not invade the cities. It is the same with our hearts. We must guard our hearts so that negative thoughts and evil spirits do not come. Proverbs 16:32 says, "Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city." The best way to guard our hearts is to have Jesus Christ in our hearts.

1. Receive the Christ
1) In order to guard our hearts, we must invite Jesus Christ into our hearts who gives forgiveness of sins, holiness, healing, the blessings of Abraham, resurrection and eternal life. (Acts 8:5)
2) The Lord gave us a life where we may enjoy good health and that all may go well with us, even as our souls are getting along well. (3 John 1:2)

2. Drive out demons
1) When Philip proclaimed the Christ, with shrieks, evil spirits came out of many, and many paralytics and cripples were healed. (Acts 8:7)
2) Evil spirits do wicked deeds and bring negative and depressing thoughts. We must use authority given by the Lord to drive out demons. (James 4:7)

3. Discard negative thoughts
1) There is joy where Jesus Christ is proclaimed. (Acts 8:8)
2) Negative thoughts take away joy and make us give up our dreams. (Prov. 15:13)
3) We must distance ourselves from negative words, let alone negative thoughts. (Eccle. 5:2)

Conclusion
When Philip went to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ to people, demons were driven out and people with various diseases were healed. So there was great joy in that city. If the Christ is in our hearts, anger, hatred, grumbling and complaints disappear, and we can live a life where we are always joyful and give thanks. In addition, we can stand up from discouragement and despair and live our lives with dreams and hopes.
