Which Was a Neighbor to the Man Who Fell into the Hands of Robbers?
Luke 10:25 ~ 10:37

2018-06-03

An expert in the law came to Jesus and asked about how to inherit eternal life. Jesus asked what is written in the Law, and the expert in the law answered, "Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself." The expert in the law asked again, "Who is my neighbor?" Then, Jesus answered him with a parable.

1. A person who fell into the hands of robbers
1) A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. He had all of his belongings taken away. He was beaten and was dying on the street. (Lk. 10:30)
2) Not only the man, but humanity met robbers. Adam who met the devil, a robber, committed sin that all people faced death. (John 10:10)

2. Which was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?
1) When the man who fell into the hands of robbers was dying, a priest happened to be going down the same road. But, the priest passed by on the other side. (Lk. 10:31)
2) After a while, a Levite saw the man, but passed by on the other side. (Lk. 10:32)
3) A Samaritan took pity on him. After he provided emergency care, he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took a great care of him. (Lk. 10:33~35)
4) After Jesus told this parable, He asked to the expert in the law, "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?" (Lk. 10:36)

3. Jesus who delivered us from death
1) Jesus washed away our sins with His precious blood. (Rom. 3:23~24)
2) Jesus healed our diseases of bodies and hearts. (1 Peter 2:24)
3) Jesus took away our curses that stemmed from sin and gave us abundant blessings. (1 John 1:2)
4) Jesus took pity on us and delivered us from death. (John 5:21)

Conclusion
When human beings faced eternal death because they committed sins by falling into the devil's temptation, Jesus came and saved us by dying on the cross and being resurrected. If people come to Jesus, they can be freed from sins, filthiness, diseases, poverty, and death and gain eternal life.
