Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
A Philosophy of Life for the New Year
Philippians 3:13 ~ 3:16

2002-12-31

Before the election, every presidential candidate said, "If I become president, I will lead the country like this and this," giving us their ruling philosophy. To live the New Year successfully, we should have a specific philosophy to follow.

1. The life God has given us. Let us think of ourselves with sober judgment according to the measure of faith God has given us (Romans 12:3,4). Just as each of us has one body with many members and those members have different functions, we are the members of the body of Christ in Korea. Let us forget about social standing and determine to faithfully do our duties with the power God has given us (1 Timothy 1:12; Ecclesiastes 12:13).

2. A positive life. Let us determine to accept all of life's experiences with a positive attitude because "in all things God works for the good of those who love him"(Romans 8:28). Joseph is an example (Genesis 50:15-21). Look positively at your neighbors and at the world. Stress the brightness-not the darkness (2 Corinthians 5:17).

3. A life of goals, hope, and dreams. If we don't have a goal, we become unfocused and unproductive (Philippians 3:14). Let us always have fervent hope (Philippians 2:13; Psalm 146:5), and expect success (Ecclesiastes 10:10; Mark 9:23; Philippians 4:13).

4. A life with peace of mind. Let us always present our requests to God, and let His peace guard our minds in Christ Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30; Philippians 4:6,7). It is God's will that we live at peace with everyone and give thanks in all circumstances (Romans 12:18,21; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

5. Live for today. Every day we should have good relationships with our family members and with our neighbors (1 Peter 4:8; Romans 15:2; Philippians 2:3,4). We must be faithful in our work and responsibilities (1 Corinthians 4:2; Revelation 2:10).

6. A life that practices love. To show love to others may be burdensome, however the fruit is sweet (Romans 12:16; 1 Corinthians 15:58). For example, some of the ways our church practices love nationally and internationally is by supporting churches in farming and fishing areas, by collecting recycling paper and clothes which provide for heart operations for children, by donating blood, collecting rice, through Elim Welfare Town, and by sending corn seed, fertilizer, medicine, and clothing through our NGO.

Heavenly Father, help us to live faithful and fruitful lives in the year 2003.(Deuteronomy 28:7,9,10,12,13)

Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
