Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
A Religion without the Shedding of Blood
Hebrews 9:19 ~ 9:28

2016-06-26

God is spirit, and we must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Because human beings have sinned, they cannot stand before holy God without blood sacrifices for their sins. This is related to how God shed animal's blood and made garments of skin for Adam and Eve.

1. Humans who cannot stand before God because of sin
1) Before Adam and Eve committed sin, they were spiritually clothed with clothes of glory. However, glory left them due to their sin and they were naked. Because they were afraid of God, they hid behind a tree and could not stand before God. (Gen. 3:8~10)
2) Adam and Eve became slaves to sin and demons because they disobeyed God's command. (John 8:34)
3) In addition, Adam and Eve became slaves to curse and death because were banished from the beautiful Garden of Eden. (Gen. 3:17)

2. A garment that God made for them
1) God caught and shed animal's blood and made garments of skin for Adam and Eve. (Gen. 3:21)
2) We cannot go before God without sacrifices of the shedding of blood. (Heb. 9:22)

3. Sacrifices and offerings that Cain and Abel offered to God
1) Cain's human-centered sacrifice without blood. (Gen. 4:3~5)
2) Abel's God-centered sacrifice with the shedding of blood.
3) Cain's anger and act of murder, he beat Abel to death. (Gen. 4:8)

4. A sacrifice that God himself provided
1) All of the sacrifices that were regularly offered in the Old Testament pointed to the death and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 10:1~4, 9~14)

5. Jesus and the cross
The cross of Calvary and Jesus Christ were sacrifices prepared for us by God. Abandoned by God the Father, look at the unspeakable suffering that Jesus took upon himself on behalf of sinners.
1) The Son whom God relentlessly put to death.
2) Why have you forsaken me? (Matt. 27:46)
3) His closest disciples scattered and fled. (Mark 14:50~52)
4) He was abandoned by men. (Mark 27:22~23)
5) He was handed over to the devil. (Rom. 4:25)
He was the wretched and suffering Lord Jesus who was abandoned by the whole universe.

Conclusion
The first ancestor of man was Adam, but he corrupted his descendants to become children of hell.
As the last ancestor of man, Jesus paid the price of all the sins committed by the first ancestor and became the ancestor of a new creation. (Rom. 5:18~19, 2 Cor. 5:17)
