Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Am I also the Prodigal Son?
Luke 15:11 ~ 15:32

2014-09-28

There was a man who had two sons. As the younger one asked the father to give his share of the estate, the father divided his property between them. Not long after that, the younger son set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, he began to be in need. Eventually, he came back to his father's house, being broken. The father did not rebuke the second son's wrongdoings. Instead, what he showed to his son was unconditional forgiveness and love.

1. The carnal person, the second son
1) A slave to lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life
2) What is the business of flesh? * (Galatians 5:19-21)
3) When a soulful being and a spiritual being are drawn by a carnal being, his life becomes degraded with no dream and purpose of life.
4) Famine comes as a result of a prodigal life of a carnal person.
- A swineherd was regarded as the humblest occupation. He realized that his life was as rotten as rags.
¢Ù Repent of his sins ¢Ú Was broken not justifying himself ¢Û Came home in search of hope ¢Ü Confession to his father

2. The rational person, the first son
1) Thought in a reasonable and rational way
2) Condemned his neighbor(brother) with a legalistic measure
3) Being angry at his brother and rebellious against his father
¢Ù Angry at his father's unreasonable attitude
¢Ú Ruthless condemnation and judgment toward the second son, his own brother
¢Û Anger toward his father's love and generosity that covers countless faults of his brother
¢Ü Who will be deemed righteous before God? - A proud Pharisee? Or a resentful tax collector? * (Luke 18:10-14)
¢Ý Shall not go with a sinner, a prodigal person, or a swindler ¨C being defiant despite his father's trying to persuade him.

3. The spiritual person, the father
1) Embraced the prodigal son in his arms with forgiveness and love
2) Did not reveal his son's sins for condemnation or judgment
3) Completed the law with love instead of neglecting it

4. The work through love
1) Bring the best robe and put it on him
2) Put a ring on his finger
3) Put sandals on his feet
4) Bring the fattened calf and kill it.
5) Let's have a feast and celebrate. - You fill me with joy in your presence with eternal pleasure at your right hand.

We ought to have in-depth understanding of God, our father. If there knows love of God on earth, condemnation and judgment will be rampant with the tragedy of people killing one another. True justice in a church lies in forgiveness and love.

  • Daily Bible
For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world.

    1 John  2:16
