Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
Why have you forsaken me?
Mark 15:33 ~ 15:34

2014-06-29

When Jesus was hung on the Cross for 6 years shedding all the water and blood, He felt absolute loneliness. God turned away His face from Jesus who was carrying the sins and inequities in humans' stead. Jesus' disciples who were with Him for 3 years were a half betrayed Jesus and went away. The people who were comforted, looked after, and cured of all sorts of diseases by Jesus betrayed Him. There was no light of hope in any direction. Then, Jesus groaned out lout resounding the mountain saying, "God, why have you forsaken me?"

1. Meaningless life without hope

1) We feel the shelter of death from feeling guilty and despair, losing the meaning of life, and being abandoned by a community.

2) Jesus' delivering us from the last despair is from the despair itself.

3) In the darkest despair where there is no light at all, the meaning of life is lost.

2. Despair of Elijah who lighted a torch of hope

1) As Elijah felt loneliness after a victory, he was in despair when threatened by Jezebel

- Fleeing away to the desert of Judah, he wished for his own death

2) He was recovered of his hope when comforted by the messenger of God with water and bread

- Let us share love and happiness with those in despair

3. The respect of Jesus and the hope of freedom and liberation

1) The gospel calling of Jesus is to deliver hope (Luke 4:16-19)

¨ç The purpose of anointing with oil is to proclaim good news to the poor

¨è Proclaim freedom for the prisoners

- The prisoner of sins, diseases, despair, and death

¨é Recovery of sight for the blind

- To see God and see oneself

¨ê Set the oppressed free

- Those oppressed by the devil

¨ë Proclaim the year of the Lord's favor

The devil's purpose is to make us in despair. The purpose of Jesus, however, is to give us hope. Good news is the words of hope. There is no hope in law.

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
