A Choice of Four Men with Leprosy
2 Kings 7:1 ~ 7:8

2016-12-11

A life is a series of choices. We stand at the crossroads of choices every day. From trivial choices such as "what to eat today" to important choices such as "who will be my companion in life," there are numerous moments of choices in front of us. Your present is the result of many choices in the past. Your future is determined by what kind of choices you make today. We who believe in God must choose not despair, but hope in each moment of life.

1. Despair occupying Samaritan city as if dusk falls
1) Ben-Hadad king of Aram mobilized his entire army and marched up and laid siege to Samaria. (2 Kings 6:24)
2) When the city was besieged, pain of hunger began due to shortage of food. (2 Kings 6:25)

2. Four men in despair choosing hope
1) When there was no food, people ate their children. (2 Kings 6:28~29)
2) Four men with leprosy who were at the entrance of the city gate thought that they cannot just sit still and die. Because they will die in the city or at the place where they were staying, they decided to go to their enemy's camp. People who were in absolute despair stood up from the seat of despair and began their march toward hope with a determination of death. (Prov. 4:23)

3. A march of faith shaking heaven and earth
1) Four men with leprosy went to their enemy's camp by holding onto hope. God marched with those men who chose hope. (Isa. 41:10~16)
2) God fulfills good things to those who move forward with faith. (Ps. 107:8~9)

Conclusion
People who rely on their strength because they are arrogant and haughty cannot get rid of their laborious and heavy burdens of life. However, people who rely on God and move forward with faith even in hopeless circumstances are led to the path of life by God's help. When despair attempts to occupy our hearts like dusk, we must not collapse or step backward. We must declare hope, stand up from the seat of despair, and make marches of faith shaking heaven and earth with God.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
