A Gospel Festival Made of Miracles and Love A Green Light to Harvest the Salvation of 10 Million Souls in Japan | | Akita is a city with natural beauty among three beautiful northeastern prefectures in Japan. It is not only famous for its lantern and food festival, but it is also proud of its scenic beauty during its four seasons and has the world¡¯s best hot springs and rice. A message of hope and blessing reverberated in Akita, a city proud of its natural resources. The Akita meeting with Dr. Cho was held on September 23 and was organized by Northeastern Evangelistic Christians Association and coordinated by David Cho Evangelistic Mission (DCEM). It was a meeting of miracles manifested in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. The meeting was held at Akita Kenmin Hall for four hours, and it was the largest Protestant gathering ever held in Akita. ¡°The Beginning of a Great Harvest¡± was the theme of the meeting, which was prepared with the cooperative efforts of 50 churches: Lutheran, Presbyterian, Full Gospel, and Calvary Chapel denominations from six northeastern regions. Even though the total number of church members in Akita is only about 700, on the day of the Akita meeting, about 2000 people gathered to hear the ministry of Dr. Cho. The meeting was held on a national holiday in Japan in autumn, the harvest season, a perfect time to bring in much spiritual fruit. | From the beginning of the meeting, the sounds of praise were vivid and passionate as though they would reach even to Hokkaido beyond the Akita Kenmin Hall. The Japanese attendees lifted their hands in praise to God and earnestly prayed that the fire of the Holy Spirit would touch all areas of Akita. Rev. Yutaka Matsuyama, committee chairman of the Northeastern Evangelistic Christians Association that made preparations for the meeting, said, ¡°I thank God for allowing us to have this meeting in Akita with Dr. Cho. I want you to meet God deeply and to have your lives changed through this precious time together.¡± | | | When Dr. Cho walked to the pulpit to preach, the attendees greeted him with welcoming applause. He spoke from Acts 8:4-8 about Philip going to Samaria to preach about Jesus Christ. Elder Shigemasa Shigaki, executive director of DCEM, interpreted Dr. Cho¡¯s message into Japanese, as Dr. Cho preached about God¡¯s great love for lost souls. | | Dr. Cho declared, ¡°Jesus Christ, whom Philip preached about in Acts 8:5, is the Jesus who was crucified for the sins of humankind, was buried, and resurrected in three days. If you believe in Jesus Christ, you will be saved and set free from sin and be healed from disease.¡± ¡°Philip explained the kind of relationship Jesus Christ had with the people in Samaria,¡± said Dr. Cho. ¡°Likewise, I want to stress the kind of relationship Jesus wants to have with the people here in Akita.¡± | The vision for the Akita meeting with Dr. Cho was fulfilled in two aspects. First, it brought unity among churches, pastors, and Christians in the northeastern region. Second, while it was designed to expedite bringing 10 million souls to the Lord, the meeting was coordinated by Japanese interdenominational pastors in one accord with the Holy Spirit, not by the Korean Full Gospel Church Association.
Even though Japan has a long history of Christianity, there is still a need for individuals and churches to have a deeper experience with the Holy Spirit. Through this meeting, some 50 churches earnestly prayed together in the fullness of the Holy Spirit for the message of hope to be spread throughout the Akita region. There are 47 prefectures in Japan. Among them, Akita is the poorest and most undeveloped area. Many people are in pain in Akita, suffering from depression, a low birth rate, suicide, alcoholism, and unemployment. The highest suicide rate for the past 15 years in Akita may have been affected by the gloomy, gray weather during the six-month period during the winter season. Above all, it could be the reason why joy, peace, and the true meaning of life have disappeared from the hearts of the Japanese people. God has earnestly waited for lost souls to come to Him through the Akita meeting with Dr. Cho, whose goal of bringing 10 million Japanese souls to Jesus will continue, not only for Akita but for all of Japan.
