Never judge a book by its cover, so they say. But
it is probably more important not to judge a book
by its title! When the author called and suggested
to me to go through a book he had written and offer
him my comments, I sought to know what it was about
and what the title was.

Through the practice of our traditional religion,
we were able to preserve our forest. We did not
have to wait for the white man to teach us environmental
management or how to preserve our forests and its
resources. At appropriate points in time, special
people, the traditional priests and priestesses,
go to the forest to perform certain rites to seek
the face of the Supreme Being and to pray against
any calamity or curse ahead of a community. The
point that needs to be noted here is that prayer
is a form of communication between a person and
his Supreme Being. Therefore, when Africans go to
the forest to offer traditional prayers, they are
not worshipping the trees, rock or any other object.
They are praying to the spirits that dwell in these
objects for them in turn to supplicate the Supreme
Being on their behalf since these spirits are messengers
of the Supreme Being.
